How is QuickBooks Mac Desktop installed?

Step 1: Make sure QuickBooks Mac desktop runs with minimum system requirements. 

  • For easy and faster installation of the QuickBooks Mac version, minimum system requirements. 
  • QuickBooks Mac 2016 R5 or earlier- Mac OS 10.10.2 and MacOS 10.11
  • QuickBooks MAc 2016 R6 and later – Mac Os 10.11 and Mac OS 10.12 (sierra)
  • Intuit processor, core 2 duo or higher.
  • Multi-user Server- It requires an Intel core 2 Duo or higher processor.
  • 2 GB RAM and 250 MB of available disk space.
  • CD/DVD drive for the installation.
  • Printer- The printer should be 100% compatible with the Macintosh to enable printing of invoices, check, reports etc. 
  • Checks- You should use Intuit checks for printing checks.
  • Product registration is required.

Step 2: Product and Serial number

Downloaded Product– The information related to license and product serial number is present in the confirmation email. You can reach out to QuickBooks support team, if you are not able to retrieve the quickbooks details.

Step 3: Downloading and installing QuickBooks

  • Prepare the installer by either downloading quickbooks MAc version or using the CD installer. 
  • Proceeding the installation- You should shut down the active and running programs. 
  • If you are using QuickBooks CD, the CD drive will itself fetch the details and open the installation windows.
  • Open the application folder and then make a double click on the QuickBooks icon. 

Step 4: Upgrading the company file 

  • Open the  newer version of the company file.
  • You will see the QuickBooks prompt to update/ convert the company file. 
  • Select the upgrade option.
  • Click Ok once the update is complete.
  • Check the balances, reports, to make sure the correct company file is converted.

Step 5: Setting up multi-user environment

  • For setting up multi-user environment:
  • Select multi-user mode.
  • You need to move  the QuickBooks server to the application folder.
  • Select the authentication option to modify the application.
  • You need to enter the admin username and password.
  • Click OK.
  • Open the company file in QuickBooks.
  • Select the multi-user mode in the file option.
